Một số kiến thức cơ bản bổ sung kỹ năng viết trong bài thi Writing tiếng Anh (P2)

Để chuẩn bị tốt cho bài thi Writing chúng ta sẽ ôn lại một số kiến thức căn bản sau:

3) Compoud sentences

Coordinating conjunctions/coordinators/FANBOYS:

And (và)	I love trees and flowers.
But (nhưng)	She is very rich but mean.
So (vì vậy)	She works hard, so she deserves it.
Nor (cũng không)	I don’t like banana nor orange.
Or (hoặc)	You can go there by bike or by bus.
Yet (tuy nhiên)	She said she didn’t love him, yet he still loved her.
For (vì)	She cannot go shopping, for it is raining.

Chú ý:

nếu câu được nối hai mệnh đề lại với nhau bằng FANBOYS thì phải nhớ có dấu “,” liên từ đó.
đối với AND hoặc OR dùng để nối hai hay nhiều câu cùng chủ ngữ sẽ có cách rút gọn sau:

AND: S+P1,P2 and P3

OR: S+P1, or P2, or P3

conjuntive adverb :=> S1+; conjuntive adveb,+S2

Correlative Conjunctions

Liên từ tương quan được sử dụng để kết nối 2 đơn vị từ với nhau và luôn đi thành cặp không thể tách rời.

Ví dụ: He’s not only affluent but also good-looking.

EITHER … OR: dùng để diễn tả sự lựa chọn: hoặc là cái này, hoặc là cái kia.

Ví dụ: I want either the pizza or the sandwich.

NEITHER … NOR: dùng để diễn tả phủ định kép: không cái này cũng không cái kia.

Ví dụ: I want neither the pizza nor the sandwich. I’ll just need some biscuits.

BOTH … AND: dùng để diễn tả lựa chọn kép: cả cái này lẫn cả cái kia.

Ví dụ: I want both the pizza and the sandwich. I’m very hungry now.

NOT ONLY … BUT ALSO: dùng để diễn tả lựa chọn kép: không những cái này mà cả cái kia

Ví dụ: I’ll eat them both: not only the pizza but also the sandwich

Lưu ý: trong cấu trúc với neither…nor và either…or, động từ chia theo chủ ngữ gần nhất còn trong cấu trúc với both…and và not only …but also, động từ chia theo chủ ngữ kép (là cả 2 danh từ trước đó.)

Ví dụ: Neither my mother nor I am going to attend his party.

Both my mother and I are going to attend his party. (both my mother and I = We)

4) Conjunctive adverb

Addition

And, in addition to, furthermore, moreover, besides, than, too, also, both-and, another, equally important, first, second, etc., again, further, last, finally, not only-but also, as well as, in the second place, next, likewise, similarly, in fact, as a result, consequently, in the same way, for example, for instance, however, thus, therefore, otherwise.

Contrast

On the contrary, contrarily, notwithstanding, but, however, nevertheless, in spite of, in contrast, yet, on one hand, on the other hand, rather, or, nor, conversely, at the same time, while this may be true.

Consequence or Result

So that, with the result that, thus, consequently, hence, accordingly, for this reason, therefore, so, because, since, due to, as a result, in other words, then.

Concession

Although, at any rate, at least, still, thought, even though, granted that, while it may be true, in spite of, of course.

Chúng ta phải nhớ tên các loại liên từ để làm đúng yêu cầu của đề bài.
